My sister caught the attention of the crime lord, but she already in love with someone else..

The day Vincent Rossi came to collect her, my sister slipped something into my drink and sent me in her place.

Then she disappeared overseas with her boyfriend, leaving no trail behind.

And I, her identical twin, became the wife of the ruthless Vincent Rossi.

After we were married, Vincent uncovered the truth.

In his rage, he subjected me to endless torment, breaking me in both body and spirit.

Five years later, my sister returned.

She went straight to Vincent and told him it was all my scheme C that I had deceived her into taking a job in some distant, dangerous country because I was desperate to marry into his world.

She claimed she’d barely escaped, and that my deception had stolen ten years of their marriage.

Blind with fury, Vincent had me thrown into the dog kennel.

Later, when the coast was clear, my sister came to me there and unleashed five vicious pit bulls.

“Forgive me, little sister,” she whispered. “But you have to die. As long as you’re alive, I’ll never feel safe.”

And just like that, five savage pit bulls tore me apart. My body was never recovered.

I opened my eyes, the familiar dread washing over me as I realized I had been given a second chance.

I was back on the day Vincent Rossi came to forcibly claim his bride.

This time, I won’t let history repeat itself…

From down the hall, I could hear my sister Sophia’s frantic sobs.

“Dad, Mom, I won’t marry him!”

“Everyone in Chicago knows Vincent Rossi is ruthless, a cold-blooded killer!

They say his previous wives he tortured them to death.

Some were even tortured to the point of being less than human.”

“If I marry him, it’s a death sentence!”

“Besides, Liam and I swore we’d be together! If I can’t be with the man I love, I’d rather die!”

“Sophia, honey, we know it’s unfair,” Mom’s voice trembled, on the verge of tears.

Dad muttered guiltily in the background.

“But Vincent Rossi we can’t defy him. If you refuse, our whole family will pay the price.”

“Sophia, I’m so sorry,” Dad choked out. “It’s my fault. I’m useless. I can’t even protect my own daughter.”

“But listen, sweetheart, if you truly don’t want this I’ll fight them. I’ll die before I let them take you.”

I stepped out of my room and into the living room, my expression calm.

“Dad, don’t talk like that,” I said, my voice steady. “Vincent Rossi runs the Outfit. Your life means nothing to him.”

Sophia shot me a look of pure disdain. “Easy for you to say! What do you suggest we do?”

The memory of her betrayathe pit bulls, my deathflashed through my mind.

Rage surged, but I forced it down.

I had to stay cool.

“Sophia, you go. Go with Liam. I’ll marry Vincent Rossi in your place.”

Silence fell over the room.

Sophia stared at me, disbelief written all over her face.

She hadn’t expected me to volunteer.

“We’re identical twins,” I continued.

“Vincent only saw you once.

He’ll never know the difference.”

In my previous life, at this exact moment, Sophia had suggested handing me over.

Our parents had agreed.

Same face, different daughters.

Sophia was always the golden child. I was expendable.

Mom hesitated, a flicker of uncertainty in her eyes.

“If you’re willing to take Sophia’s place that could work.

But Vincent Rossi is powerful. Can we really fool him?”

“What if he finds out? He’ll destroy us all.”

Dad jumped in.

“Do we have a better option? Chloe’s idea is solid. Sophia, you leave tonight. Go abroad with Liam. I’ll give you all our savings. Even Vincent Rossi’s reach doesn’t extend overseas…”

Their focus was entirely on Sophia.

Not a single thought for what would happen to me in the Rossi household.

A familiar, icy chill spread through my chest.

Just like always.

Always giving in to Sophia.

Always putting her first.

I was just background noise.

An afterthought.

Sophia lowered her head, thinking.

“Chloe’s plan has merit but there’s a flaw.

What if we stage my death? Say I died suddenly of an illness. That’s why Chloe is stepping in.”

“Vincent couldn’t argue with that.”

Dad slapped his thigh. “Brilliant! Why didn’t I think of that? Sophia, you’re a genius.”

And just like that, I was bundled into the sleek black limousine sent by the Rossi family…

The last time, I’d been drugged and terrified, waking in that car with nothing but pure hatred for Vincent Rossi.

That single emotion poisoned our entire five-year marriage. There was no affection, only fear and bitter resentment.

To be honest? Vincent Rossi’s reputation was truly monstrous.

But looking back with clearer eyes perhaps he wasn’t quite the demon the world made him out to be.

He was undeniably handsome. Filthy, obscenely rich.

And surprisingly, in private, he could be tender.

Maybe because I’d painted him as the villain from the very first day, I’d blinded myself to any redeeming quality.

But I’d been given a second chance. This time, I’d try to see him differently

Vincent’s first words to me were chillingly familiar,”My only requirement is obedience. Don’t cause me trouble.”

Last time, I’d bristled, my fear morphing into defiance. I had nearly attacked him.

The result? Three days locked in a room without food.

This time, I chose a different path.

“Of course, Vincent,” I said softly, meeting his dark gaze without flinching. “I’ve always been a good girl. I’ll do whatever you say.”

My response clearly surprised him. I wasn’t the hysterical, fighting bride he’d clearly expected.

He didn’t comment, simply summoned his butler with flick of his wrist. “Mrs. Rossi will need everything. The best. My wife must look the part.”

A veritable flood of designer clothes, exquisite jewelry, and leather handbags arrived at the mansion.

Dressed in that luxury, I looked different. Confident. Powerful in a way I’d never felt before.

After the quiet, impersonal wedding, I consciously embraced the role of the perfect, obedient wife.

While Vincent managed his empire, I stayed home, diligently mastering the art of cooking. Slow-cooked stews, perfectly seared steaks, decadent chocolate desserts C I prepared everything meticulously, sourcing the finest ingredients myself.

I knew the old adage well, the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.

And at night I ensured he found other, more compelling reasons to linger in our chambers. I was attentive, passionate, always leaving him wanting more.

Slowly, I felt Vincent’s attitude toward me shift.

He started taking me to high-society events, introducing me firmly as his wife.

He’d occasionally suggest spontaneous shopping trips, just the two of us.

Our marriage was transforming, evolving from a transaction into something that felt real.

I could feel it C a small, guarded space was opening for me in his heart.

Last time, without this fragile foundation, Sophia’s return had instantly sealed my doom. I’d been utterly powerless.

The memory of those pit bulls’ teeth tearing into my flesh I’d never forget it.

But this time this time, I held some of the cards.

Six months passed.

By then, it was patently obvious Vincent had grown attached. Dependent, even.

He’d call multiple times a day if business kept us apart for more than a few hours.

Slowly, tentatively… against all odds, we fell in love.

Then, my mother called. Dad was sick, she claimed, her voice thick with fake tears.

I needed to come home.

But the moment I walked into their lavish foyer, I saw Dad lounging on the plush sofa, scrolling mindless through TikTok. Not a trace of illness on him.

“Dad? Mom said you were seriously sick?”

He lowered his phone, looking momentarily sheepish before his expression hardened.

“Had to tell her something to get you here, didn’t I?”

He stood up, jabbing a finger near my temple. “Think you’re too good for us now? Living the high life with the Rossis, forgot all about your poor old parents?”

Anger flared, hot and sudden in my chest. They’d thrown me to the wolves. They had acted like I was dead to them the moment I was useful.

“Dad, Mom,” I said, my voice dangerously tight. “I remember the text you sent the day I married Vincent. You’re dead to us now. Don’t contact us again.’ Ring any bells?”

Mom actually had the audacity to flinch. “Don’t be like that, Chloe! We were trying to protect you!To sell the story! ”

“Besides,” she continued, her voice turning wheedling, “we’re family! Now you’re rolling in it, you’ll just abandon us? After everything we’ve done for you?”

My frown deepened. “Mom, what are you talking about? Vincent sends you money! A hefty monthly allowance, from what I know. And this mansion?”

I gestured around the opulent room. “He bought it for you! What more could you possibly want?”

Mom’s face hardened into a mask of maternal disappointment and greed. “Chloe, have you forgotten your sister? Your own flesh and blood!”

“Mom,” I said, my voice dropping to a cold, warning whisper. “Remember, Sophia is dead. To the world, and especially to Vincent. If he hears you talking like this I can’t predict what he’ll do.”

Her eyes flashed with pure, unadulterated anger.

“Chloe, stop using that as an excuse! It’s just us here. No outsiders. So let’s be clear, Sophia’s in trouble abroad. She needs a billion dollars. You give it to her, and we’ll never bother you again.”

“A billion?”

I stared, utterly dumbfounded. “Where in God’s name am I supposed to get a billion dollars?”

Dad stood up, puffing out his chest. “You don’t have it, but Vincent Rossi does! His empire is worth what? Hundreds of billion? A billion is pocket change to him!”

“You’re Mrs. Rossi now! If you can’t even manage to get a billion for your own family, maybe you’re not cut out for the role after all.”

“Vincent has money, yes,” I retorted, my voice turning into icy. “But it doesn’t grow on trees! And Sophia is the one who chose not to marry him. This isn’t my problem. If that’s all you dragged me here for, I’m leaving. Vincent’s expecting me for dinner.”

I turned on mt heel and walked out without a single backward glance. Their furious, desperate shouts followed me all the way down the manicured driveway.

After that disastrous family reunion, I kept my distance.

A month later, Mom called again.

“Chloe, honey I’m sorry about how things went last time. I was out of line. Are you free this weekend? I’ve cooked all your favorites. It’s been forever since we had a proper family dinner. Will you come home?”

It was the first time she’d used that gentle tone since my marriage to Vincent.

Before I could answer, she started crying.

“Chloe, your father and I we’re not getting any younger. Who knows how much time we left”

Her words got to me, despite everything. “Alright,” I said. “I’ll come tomorrow.”

I told Vincent I was visiting my parents and drove over.

Mom greeted me at the door with this huge, brigh smile, her warmth feeling almost overwhelming. It felt off.

She ushered me inside, talking a mile a minute.

The dining table was covered with dishes I genuinely loved.

Was she finally feeling remorseful?

Then, a figure stepped out from the hallway.

My blood ran cold. “Sophia? What are you doing here?”

Her showing up like this shocked me. Based on the last timeline, she shouldn’t have been back for another three years.

Why now?

“Chloe! It’s been too long!” Sophia beamed, grabbing my hands.

Her eyes immediately scanned my outfit from head to toe.

“Is this Vincent’s doing? This looks expensive.” She ran her fingers over the slik of my blouse.

Then she grabbed my wrist. “Diamonds? On a watch? This has gotta be worth millions! He really does spoils you, doesn’t he?”

Her expression suddenly turned grim. “God You have no idea how tough things have been for me over in Europe.”

As she launched into her sob story, I braced myself. What does she want?

“Sophia,” I cut her off, “I thought you said you’d ego through anything to be with Liam?”

“Don’t even say his name!” she snapped. “We broke up!”

She locked eyes with me. “Let’s not beat around the bush. I’m here to take my life back.”

I just stared, completely speechless.

Sophia continued, her voice turning hard. “I was the one supposed to marry Vincent Rossi. After dinner, you’re taking off those clothes and that jewelry. I’m going back with you.”

The sheer nerve of it took my breath away.

“Sophia, that’s crazy,” I said, keeping my voice as steady as I could. “You were the one screaming about how you’d never marry him. I’ve spent months building a real life there. Why would I hand it over to you?”

Sophia’s cool composure completely shattered.

“Chloe! Vincent Rossi was meant for me! You’ve been living my life long enough! It’s time to give him back!”

A bitter laugh escaped me.

“You chose not to marry him! You almost got our entire family killed! I was the one who sacrificed myself to save everyone, and instead of any thanks, you have the audacity to say this to me?”

“You think my life there is some easy ride? It took work. Sophia, do you honestly believe you can just slip into my life and everything I’ve built will just transfer over to you?”

Sophia jumped to her feet, pointing a shaking finger at me. “Chloe! Don’t test me! If you don’t agree, I’ll go straight to Vincent. I’ll tell him the whole truth!”

“I’ll tell him you tricked me, that you sent me off to be trapped by some overseas crime syndicate! You’ll lose everything, and you’ll have to face his anger! You’ll be ruined!”

The old script was replaying itself. But this time, I wasn’t going to follow it.

“Fine,” I said, my voice dangerously calm. “Go ahead. Tell him. Worst case? We all go down together.”

Sophia froze. “Together? What do you mean?”

I met her gaze, my eyes cold. “Let’s just say I have a recording of our little conversation five years ago. The one where you planned to drug me and send me to Vincent. Can you imagine how he’d react to hearing that?”

Silence. Sophia went pale. Even my parents looked utterly stunned.

“You you recorded it?” Sophia’s voice was barely a whisper.

“Insurance,” I said simply. “One must be prepared.”

Before I could react, Mom lunged at me. Her hand connected sharply with my cheek.

“You treacherous little bitch!” she screamed. “Scheming against your own family! But Sophia will take your place! You agree, or I’ll throw myself in front of a car right now!”

I clutched my stinging cheek, tears finally spilling over.

“So that’s it,” I whispered, the pain cutting deeper than the slap. “I thought maybe you and Dad cared about me, too.”

“But it’s always been Sophia. Only Sophia.”

“What am I? Am I even your daughter?”

My parents had no answer. They couldn’t look me in the eye.

I took a shuddering breath, my voice firm. “I won’t do it. Forget it.”

I turned to leave, unable to stand the sight of them for another second.

But as I reached for the front door, blinding pain exploded at the back of my skull.
