Amber was having an affair, and her husband, Richard, had just cornered her at her lover’s doorstep.
In a panic, she called me, begging me to lure Richard away.
Later, her lover blackmailed her with secretly taken intimate photos, demanding a huge sum of money.
She sold off their possessions behind Richard’s back and even embezzled company funds.
When Richard found out, he exploded with rage.
But Amber blamed me for everything. She said I was jealous she’d married well, that I had hired someone to assault her, and that I was the one blackmailing her with the photos.
In his fury, Richard broke my arms and legs, stuffed me into a burlap sack, and threw me into the river.
Now, I was reborn, back to the day Amber was cheating.
I sat dazed on the living room sofa, staring blankly at the familiar surroundings.
The agonizing memory of having my limbs broken and being drowned left me trembling with fear.
Especially the memory of Richard’s vicious face and Amber’s triumphant smirk just before I died. It filled me with bitter fury.
Now that I had a second chance, I would never let that tragedy repeat itself.
Just then, Amber called.
“Hey girl,” she said casually, “I’m not coming home tonight!”
“If Richard asks, just tell him I’m with you.”
I replied coolly, “Going to make love with your toy boy again?”
Amber hummed dismissively, “Damn right. I’ve been holding out for days. Tonight, I’m letting loose!”
Aren’t you afraid Richard will find out?” I pressed, feigning concern. “You know how he gets. He’d lose his mind.”
Amber snapped impatiently, “He’s practically screwing that slutty secretary of his! Why should I be the faithful one? I deserve some fun too”
“Not only am I keeping a man, I’m gonna have another man’s baby.”
“When he’s old and frail, I’ll tell him the truth. Imagine his face when he learns the kid he raised isn’t even his! Don’t you think that would kill him?”
Her voice dripped with venom as she spoke.
This stemmed from a few weeks ago when Amber found proof of Richard meeting his secretary secretly. She dragged me to his office to make a scene.
We expected Richard to apologize, but instead, he slapped Amber hard across the face, right in front of everyone.
“You live off my money,” he snarled. “Everything you have is because of me. How dare you question me?”
“So what if I have a few women on the side? What are you gonna do about it?”
“Remember the pre-nup? If you push for divorce, you get nothing.”
Richard cut off her credit card, and Amber panicked.
That night, she begged and cried at his bedside, blaming me for instigating the whole incident..
Eventually, Richard forgave her… and marked me as an enemy.
After that, Amber started secretly keeping a toy boy to get back at Richard.
Honestly, those two snakes deserved each other!
After hanging up, I replayed the recording I’d secretly made.
Perfect.
Last time, Amber ruined me.
This time, this phone recording was my key piece of evidence.
Minutes later, my phone rang again.
This time, it was Richard.
I answered coldly.
“Vivian!” he roared. “Where did you take my wife this time?”
“I’m warning you—if you keep dragging her to those shady places and poisoning her against me, you’ll pay for it!”
“She’s not a child, and I’m not your damn nanny!” I retorted. “If you can’t find your wife, that’s your problem! Fuck off!”
Before he could yell again, I hung up.
In my past life, I covered for Amber, only for her to betray me and cause my death.
I wasn’t foolish enough to make the same mistake again.
But I knew Amber well. If Richard actually caught her in the act, she’d play the saintly victim for him, and she’d still dump all the blame on me.
And Richard, narrow-minded and vengeful, still held a grudge over the office incident. He’d likely take his rage out on me again.
So, I needed another plan.
Around six in the evening, I was packing a suitcase when my husband, Brian, got home from work.
He looked puzzled. “Honey? Why the suitcase?”
I shot him a look of pure disgust but said nothing.
In my past life, when I was defenseless against Amber’s accusations, I turned to him for support.
But he sided with her, calling me a vicious, scheming bitch, claiming he’d been blind to marry me, and forcing me to sign divorce papers in public.
This man I’d once loved so deeply, who constantly whispered sweet nothings about loving me… had hurt me deeply!
He wouldn’t cross Richard. Richard was his small company’s biggest client, his golden goose. So, he abandoned me without a second thought.
Worst of all, I only learned before my death that he had been sleeping with my “best friend,” Amber, for who knows how long..
I once loved him deeply.
Now, the sight of him made me sick.
Disgustingly sick.
Oblivious to my hatred, he frowned. “What’s wrong? Who upset you? You…”
His words were cut off by my ringing phone. Amber again.
I answered it right in front of Brian.
“Vivian!”she shrieked. “I asked you to distract Richard! What hell did you do?””
“He’s here with his men! If he catches us, I’m finished!”
“Get him away from here, now! Do you hear me?”
I said coldly, “None of my damn business!”
I hung up before she could respond.
My actions stunned Brian.
“Vivian, what are you doing?” he finally exclaimed. “Amber is your best friend! How can you abandon her?”
“Richard’s got a temper! If he catches her… Amber’s done for! You—”
I cut him off. “You seem awfully concerned about Amber.”
Brian flushed slightly. “I’m not! It’s just… you two are so close. Yeah, she screwed up cheating, but we can’t just stand by and do nothing!”
He was frantic—whether out of concern for her or fear of losing Richard as a client, I couldn’t tell.
I smiled coldly. “If you want to help her, go ahead.”
“I’ve sent you the location. It’s not far. It’s your choice.”
Seeing I was adamant, Brian sighed dramatically and rushed out the door.
After finishing the suitcase, I waited quietly at home.
Around seven-thirty, the front door was violently kicked open.
Richard stormed in, followed by a dozen burly men.
Behind them were Amber, her face a mask of feigned outrage, and Brian, his expression dark and grim.
Richard charged straight at me, his hand connecting hard with my cheek.
“You goddamn bitch!” he roared. “You set my wife up! I’m going to make you pay for this today!”
The slap sent me sprawling. He kicked me savagely several times.
Crying out in pain, I shouted, “I didn’t set her up! She was the one—”
Amber cut me off with a loud wail. She lunged forward, slapping me repeatedly, putting on a show of wounded fury. “Vivian! How could I ever have been friends with a vicious snake like you?”
“I trusted you! I always had your back! But you were just jealous I married well! You drugged me and had me assaulted! Do you have any conscience left?”
“If my husband hadn’t believed me, I’d never have cleared my name!”
“Vivian, you’ve destroyed me! Our friendship ends here, today!”
Brian jumped in then, kicking me hard, his face a mask of fake heartbreak and rage. “Vivian! I never imagined you were this kind of person!”
“You had me completely fooled! If I’d known you were this evil, I would never have married you!”
“I want a divorce! You don’t deserve to be my wife!”
I watched their hypocrisy unfold.
Gritting my teeth against the pain, I spat out, “I’m being framed!”
Richard slapped me again before the words fully left my mouth.
He grabbed my hair, yanking my head back. “Framed?” he snarled. “My wife and your husband – your closest people! Would they both frame you?”
“You’re still denying it! Stupid bitch!”
“Killing you outright would be too easy.”
“I’ll ruin you. Make you a pariah everyone spits on.”
He turned to his men. “Drag her to the community park. Let everyone in this neighborhood see her for the poison she really is .”
