My husband had a manic disorder. He went mad at the sight of red.

After marriage, I only wore red twice.

The first time, he flew into a rage and broke my head — it took thirteen stitches.

The second time, he beat me until I miscarried at three months pregnant.

After that, I never dared to wear red again.

Afraid of triggering him again, I wore only pure white from inside out.

On the day I was discharged after the miscarriage, I saw in a restaurant my husband dining with a female student.

They embraced and danced. His eyes were full of affection.

Just then, the doctor called,

“Mrs. Murphy, regarding Mr. Murphy’s condition, we’ve developed —”

Watching the girl’s fiery red skirt, I smiled bitterly,

“No need. The problem is already solved.”

“How is that possible? We’ve been researching for so long and never pinpointed the issue with Mr. Murphy!”

“Now, after extensive discussion and study, a team of experts has finally proposed a solution —”

I lifted my gaze as the doctor spoke excitedly on the other end of the line.

Upstairs, the girl danced a clumsy waltz, stepping on Kyle’s feet.

Suddenly, I felt a sense of release, tears silently streaming down.

Maybe I just shouldn’t have been Mrs. Murphy.

Weary of the intimate scene, I went home.

Back in my room, I opened my wardrobe where rows of red dresses hung inside.

Red was always my favorite color.

But because Kyle couldn’t stand me in red, these clothes had been tucked away, gathering dust.

Now I wouldn’t to play along anymore. I shouldn’t be the joke.

When Kyle came home, he found me sitting there drinking coffee in a red dress.

Instantly, he rushed over and choked me hard.

“Didn’t I tell you? You’re not allowed to wear that color!”

His fist was about to strike, his face twisted in agony.

I looked at him with a faint smile.

“You said you love me, didn’t you?”

“I want to see if you can overcome your nature for me.”

Kyle struggled, the veins on his hand bulging.

Finally, he smashed a glass bottle and cut his own hand before turning to leave.

I watched his retreating figure, my eyes cold.

“So you can ‘control’ it after all.”

The last time I accidentally wore red, he beat me until I miscarried.

When he saw me lying in the hospital bed, he frowned.

“Didn’t I tell you to only wear white? No red!”

“You know I have a stress response to the color!”

And seeing my pale, tearful face, Kyle softened and held me tightly.

“Honey, it’s because of my psychological issues. I’m sorry you have to go through this.”

“As long as you don’t wear red, everything will be fine.”

I had no choice but to swallow my pain and accept it.

But then I saw him dancing with Chloe in the restaurant, which made me feel like a fool.

The private doctor bandaged Kyle’s hand outside while I started packing my things.

The noise caught Kyle’s attention.

“Another business trip?”

He walked in and hugged me from behind.

Kisses dotted the back of my neck.

I stood rigid, neither pushing him away nor responding. He was just showering me with fake affection.

“Yeah, there are still some matters that need my attention.”

Truth was, I didn’t really need to go on a trip.

I just didn’t want to see Kyle for a while.

Kyle unbuttoned my shirt.

“Sophie.” His voice was hoarse. “Hold me.”

He wanted me, pinning my hands above my head.

I stayed silent but stiffly pulled my hands back.

Noticing my resistance, he opened his eyes.

“Sophie, are you still mad?”

As I didn’t answer, Kyle knelt on one knee and pulled out a gift box from behind.

“Bought you a new dress. See if you like it.”

Inside was a pure white dress.

I felt physically sick looking at it and set the box aside.

“Kyle Murphy, let’s get a divorce.”

Just then, his phone buzzed.

Kyle looked down, his eyes soft and tender.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Chloe happily sharing bits of her life with him through messages.

It felt like an eternity passed before Kyle looked up at me.

“What did you say just now?”

I felt like I’d punched air.

I also noticed Kyle’s phone wallpaper was a picture of Chloe dancing in red.

His gaze always turned tender and adoring at it, the way he’d never looked at me in.

So when Chloe suddenly showed up in the house holding a pregnancy report in front of me, I didn’t hesitate to slap her across the face.

The woman screamed and tried to fight back.

“Sophie, you b**ch!”

“How dare you hit me! Kyle won’t let you get away with this!”

Kyle rushed over, his face dark with anger. I was pulling Chloe’s hair, pinning her helplessly against the wall.

“Sophie!” Kyle tried to stop me, furious.

I smiled at him.

“Honey, this girl is trying to scam us — she says she’s pregnant with your child.”

I raised my fist, aiming for her stomach, but Kyle grabbed my wrist midway.

“Sophie! Stop causing trouble.”

“Kyle, what do you mean by stopping me? Is she telling the truth?”

“Is the child really yours?”

I thought Kyle would desperately deny it, but he was surprisingly honest this time.

“Yes.” He met my gaze. “The child is mine.”

The next second, I slapped him with all my strength.

Kyle’s face snapped to the side from the force. It took a long time for him to turn back.

“Sophie, it was a mistake.”

“I mistook Chloe for you that night.”

“But the doctor said Chloe can’t have an abortion, or she’ll never be able to conceive again. I can’t ruin her life.”

Kyle shielded Chloe firmly behind him.

“Sophie, weren’t you supposed to be on a business trip?”

Kyle frowned, trying to pull me away and calm things down.

“Let’s talk about this when you’re back.”

I shook him off coldly, pointing at Chloe’s red skirt.

“Didn’t you say you go crazy at the sight of red? Are you blind? Can’t you see she’s wearing bright red?”

“Kyle, do you remember how you reacted the last time I wore the color?”

“You beat me until I miscarried and ended up in the hospital. Have you forgotten?”

Kyle looked at me, his eyes full of exhaustion.

“I already said countless times I’m sorry.”

“Sophie, do you have to keep bringing this up? How long are you going to keep making a scene?”

Making a scene?

I savored the word and laughed.

“That was my kid! You think I shouldn’t make a scene?”

“Kyle, today either you take this woman to the hospital for an abortion, or you pay with your life.”

Chloe, hiding behind him, burst into tears and tugged at his sleeve.

“Kyle, I don’t want to lose the baby!”

Kyle held her hand reassuringly.

“Don’t worry, I’m here.”

Kyle stood his ground — no one was touching Chloe.

“I told you, she can’t have an abortion.”

Kyle knelt on one knee before me.

“Take my life instead.”

“Do whatever you want to me.”

Disgusted, I forced a bright smile.

“Fine.” I picked up a nearby vase.

Amid Chloe’s terrified screams, I swung it at Kyle.

“Don’t hurt him!”

Chloe rushed forward and took the hit on her back.

The color drained from Kyle’s face.

“Chloe…”

Panicked, he scooped her into his arms.

“Don’t be scared, I’ll get you to a doctor!”

He glanced back at me, his eyes icy with hatred.

And just like that, I knew Kyle wouldn’t let me off.

But I’d already arranged for a reporter to secretly film everything.

By tonight, Kyle would see this exclusive news story.

Sure enough, two hours later,

#KyleMurphyTwo-Timing# trended top.

Soon, Kyle called me, furious.

“Sophie, you set this up! Get it taken down now!”

Without saying a word, I hung up without hesitation, then blocked his number.

His messages kept flooding in.

“Sophie, do you have any idea how much negative publicity this is causing? The stock price is plummeting!”

“I know you’re angry, but can we talk this out properly when you get back?”

“If you need me to, I can apologize —”

I expressionlessly placed my phone face down on the table, and looked at the lawyer across from me.

“Let’s continue.”

I handed him a long-buried divorce agreement.

“Could you please review this and see if it’s still valid?”

Before marriage, Kyle had personally signed a divorce agreement.

He coldly told me,

“If you want to leave, just sign this paper. You’re free to go anytime.”

“This is your guarantee of freedom.”

Later, our relationship grew closer.

As a CEO, he always spared time to cook three meals a day for me.

I was touched and thought a happy life with him would last forever.

That document was buried and forgotten.

Before discovering Chloe’s existence, I never considered divorce.

Aside from his reaction to red, Kyle treated me well in other ways.

Even after losing the child, I would forgive and tolerate him.

But I refused to be made a fool.

The lawyer carefully reviewed the document and nodded.

“This agreement is still valid. It takes effect as soon as you sign.”

I signed on the spot and handed it back to him.

“I want a divorce, as quickly as possible.”

Walking out of the café, a light rain was falling.

Surprisingly, Kyle’s car was parked at the curb.

“Get in.”

The window rolled down, revealing Kyle’s cold, stern face.

I didn’t even break stride, brushing right past.

“Sophie!”

Kyle caught up and grabbed my arm.

“Are you still causing trouble?!”

I slapped him across the face.

“Don’t touch me. You’re disgusting.”

Kyle stood frozen. His gaze fell on my fiery red dress.

“Why do you have to oppose me like this?”

“Sophie, didn’t we used to have a good relationship? Can’t we go back to how things were?”

“Chloe only suffered minor injuries, and the baby is fine. Otherwise —”

“Otherwise, what would you do?” I cut him off. “Kill me, is that it?”

“Sophie! What’s happened to you?”

“Did I change, or did you?”

“Kyle, remember, you betrayed me first.”

I didn’t want to waste more breath on him and turned to leave.

Kyle persisted,

“That trending news was your doing. Contact her and get it taken down!”

“Chloe saw the news and got upset — she threatened to jump. I barely managed to calm her down.”

“Sophie, stop being so selfish.”

“Don’t drag others into your mess just for your own sake.”

Oh, what a considerate and responsible man.

I turned back with a cold laugh.

“Selfish?”

“Not only will I be selfish, I’ll be evil, making you both suffer.”
