Content:
At my daughter Luna’s graduation ceremony, as she was giving her speech, a strange girl suddenly rushed onto the stage.
She shoved Luna behind her and snatched the microphone right out of her hand.
Her eyes, sharp and challenging, found me in the front row. Mrs. Grant, my name is Sienna. I’m your biological daughter.
A wave of shocked murmurs swept through the crowd.
But Sienna showed not a trace of fear. Instead, she pulled out several sheets of paper.
On the projection screen behind her, the words became starkly clear for all to see: DNA Test Report.
Beside me, my son Lucas shot me a few furtive glances.
My daughter Luna stood frozen on the stage, her eyes wide and pleading as they met mine.
The entire school faculty and student weie also staring at me.
And Sienna? She shot Luna a look dripping with smug satisfaction.
No, it was more than a look.
As Luna stood there, Sienna hauled off and slapped her hard across the face!
“Luna!” My heart ached, and I surged forward towards the stage.
But halfway there, Lucas grabbed my arm, “Mom, your heels,” he said, his voice a low warning. “Be careful.
Heels? Now? I shook him off and hurried forward.
I shoved Lucas aside and ran towards the stage.
On stage, Luna was still clutching her reddening cheek. She was bewildered.
Sienna was already crowing triumphantly. “Luna Grant, you’ve pretended to be the real heiress for eighteen whole years. One slap isn’t nearly enough payback for that.”
Years of ingrained propriety stopped me from slapping her right back in front of everyone
But my priority was Luna, so I grabbed Sienna roughly and shoved her away hard.
“Luna!” The mark on Luna’s face was already swelling visibly.
She had always been sweet, never one for conflict.
But now, at her own graduation, she’d been slapped for no reason!
“Security!” I called out, my voice tight with anger. “Where is security? How is this allowed to happen?”
But then, to my shock, my son Lucas, who’d followed close behind, was now steadying the very girl who’d just hit his sister, asking her solicitously if she was hurt?
What the hell?
But before I could process it, Sienna wrenched herself free and thrust the papers into my hands.
“Aren’t you my mother or not? I’m your real daughter, but you’re defending this fake!”
“Mom!” Luna grabbed my hand, her fingers trembling.
Luna’s graduation was ruined.
After such a bombshell, no one cared about speeches or diplomas anymore. All attention was fixed on the shocking drama that had just unfolded.
I met Sienna’s expectant stare, then gently squeezed Luna’s hand. “Let’s go,” I said quietly.
The four of us C me, Luna, Lucas, and Sienna C headed to the dean’s office..
The moment the door closed, Sienna started again. “Mom, I’m your real daughter. This is the paternity report with Dad.”
I stayed silent.
I’d already skimmed the report on the way over.
It proved nothing to me.
But before I could respond, Lucas, who usually showed little interest in his sister’s affairs, sprang into action. He stepped around me and took the report from Sienna.
“Mom, it’s real!” he exclaimed, his voice tinged with excitement? There was no shock, just a strange eagerness
Why would he be happy that some random girl shows up with a paternity report claiming his sister isn’t his sister?
Remembering how he’d rushed to help Sienna earlier, a flicker of suspicion ignited in my mind.
But Lucas seemed oblivious to my expression.
Oblivious to my expression, Lucas prattled on, “No wonder I felt an instant connection! Ye Qian has to be my real sister. We have to bring her home!”
Lucas was already falling over himself to claim her.
“And what happens to Luna if we do?” I asked , my voice deceptively calm.
My calm tone seemed to encourage him. That’s easy,” he said with a shrug. “They just switch places. Sienna comes home, Luna leaves. Everyone goes where they belong.”
Sienna chimed in fiercely. “Yes! Mom, I refuse to live with a thief.”
Luna looked utterly bewildered, then reached for my hand again, “Mom”
Luna only flaw was her softness. I gave her hand a reassuring pat.
Then I turned directly to Lucas. “How do you know this Sienna is your real sister? What if she’s just one of your father’s love child?”
Lucas stared, speechless.
I also made it clear that this so-called paternity report meant absolutely nothing to me.
Luna was my daughter, and Luna was the only one I recognized.
“If you’re so keen on living with Sienna,” I suggested to Lucas, “why don’t you just leave the Grant family and go live with your precious Sienna?”
Lucas couldn’t understand why I wasn’t more shaken by the possibility my daughter had been lost for eighteen years.
Of course I wasn’t shaken.
Lucas didn’t know. He, Luna, and Sienna
They were all my husband, Charles Grant’s, illegitimate children.
My husband Charles was reading the newspaper on the living room sofa.
Lucas burst into the room, barely containing himself. “Dad! Guess what? Luna is a fake! She’s not your real daughter!”
“What?” Charles looked up at Luna and me as we entered. “Olivia, what’s Lucas talking about?”
I simply smiled, content to watch Lucas make a spectacle of himself..
Lucas eagerly recounted the entire event at the school.
Charles hadn’t expected this either. He just stunned with disbelief.
Meanwhile.
Luna, tears welling in her eyes, asked me timidly, “Mom, am I really not your daughter?”
“Let’s not jump to conclusions about that report,” I said, soothingly patting her shoulder. “Even if it were true, it doesn’t mean you aren’t Charles’s daughter. And more importantly, you’ve been my daughter for eighteen years. That is not a lie.”
Lucas jumped to his feet. “What do you mean? If Sienna really is your daughter, you wouldn’t claim her?”
I snorted coldly, my eyes locking with Charles’s: “She will never be my biological daughter…”
“Olivia!” Charles cut me off sharply. He turned to Lucas and Luna. “Your mother and I need to talk.”
He gestured towards the hallway.”Let’s talk in the bedroom.”
I nodded, a cynical smile playing on my lips. “Fine.”
