Transmigrated in a Horror Game with my stepLunater, the fake socialite heiress, I made a horrifying discovery.
Discovering the scariest monsters in this horror dungeon are all my ex-boyfriends.
Considering how badly every single breakup had gone, I decided my best bet was to avoid them at all costs.
Unexpectedly, my parents and fiancé, desperate to snatch my life-saving prop for the fake heiress,
Didn’t hesitate to reveal my location to the monsters.
“Luna, you’re tough, you can take a hit, you don’t need this prop to survive.”
“But Pearl is different, she needs it to stay alive.”
Yet, the supposedly vicious monsters scrambled to embrace me instead.
They clamored over each other.
“So we got dumped because we weren’t bad enough?”
“Your family? What family? Already digesting. Want me to dig them out for you?”
“Get back together with me! If you don’t, I’ll twist my own head off and show you”
Faced with eighteen monstrous exes begging for reconciliation, I chose to play dead.
…
??[Welcome to Horror Game Level: Dawn of the Sanitarium.]??
??[Please play your roles as patients well. Do not be discovered by any NPCs~]??
My fiancé and parents refused to believe we were in a real horror game, insisting it was my trick.
“Luna Young! Just because you’re jealous of Pearl, you pull this stunt to scare us? You’re vile!”
“I warn you, send us back now, or you’ll regret it, you wretched girl!”
Pearl fanned the flames.
“Luna, I know you hate me, but how could you target Mom, Dad, and Ryan too?”
But I had no time for their delusions. Because I realized,
The photos and names on the doctors’ and patients’ files in this sanitarium? Mostly my exes!
If I got caught, it would be over. Every breakup had been messy. The kind of messy that breeds deep, lasting hatred.
My fiancé, Ryan Wright, shoved me when I stayed silent.
“Stop playing dead!”
“Listen, no matter what game you’re playing, the one we’ll always favor is the kind-hearted Pearl! Not a vicious woman like you!”
I brushed him off.
“Yeah, yeah, sure. It’s all my trick. But I’m not stopping you from leaving. Feel free to walk out anytime.”
Then I scrambled, grabbing clothes and anything else to layer on.
I even tore a sheet to wrap my face completely.
But Ryan and the others had no intention of leaving the ward.
Uncertain if this was a horror game, they just wanted to push me out as a test.
A burly man with sleeve tattoos pointed angrily at the daily schedule on the wall.
“Enough chatter! Doctors’ rounds in five minutes.”
“If this really is a horror game, failing the mission means we die.”
Ryan looked arrogantly confident.
“Just act like mental patients? How hard can that be?”
Pearl gazed at him adoringly.
“Exactly! Ryan is so capable. Leading us through will be easy for him.”
“Luna, if you apologize to us, we might consider bringing you along.”
I ignored her.
Glancing at the names on the beds, none were ours.
“We probably need to impersonate existing patients.”
“It’s likely not as simple as just acting a bit…”
Mom cut me off impatiently.
“Ryan and Pearl are smart, they know that! Who needs you to say it?”
I shut up. Fine. If they’re rushing to their doom, so be it.
The already dim ward lights began flickering. Something scraped loudly outside, getting closer.
Panic flashed across faces as everyone scrambled for beds further back.
Pearl suddenly shoved me onto Bed #1, a smug smile on her face.
“Since Luna is so clever, she can take point.”
I grabbed the headboard, furious, and kicked Pearl hard.
“Who said you could decide for me?”
My parents rushed to steady Pearl. Ryan stepped forward to slap me.
I yanked his hair, pinned him down, and started punching.
“And you! Can’t even tell who your fiancée is anymore?”
Just then, nurses with heads spun 180 degrees crawled in, scuttling across the ceiling and walls.
Their mouths stretched wide, heads creaking as they rotated, voices shrill.
“Quiet! Dr. Carter is making rounds.”
Their crimson tongues licked lips, promising anyone exposed would be their next meal.
The doctor they mentioned entered.
He seemed more normal than the nurses: white coat, gold-rimmed glasses.
Handsome, pale face, blood-red eyes, a grin stretching to his ears, shark-like teeth.
But his presence was overwhelmingly oppressive.
I kept hitting Ryan to mask my terror.
Carter. A psycho who liked “collecting” small animals’ organs.
Given the chance, he’d probably do the same to people.
Dr. Carter tilted his head towards Bed #1, eyes narrowing, voice drawn out. “Patient in Bed #1…”
Ryan, under my fists, hissed through gritted teeth, “You’re dead!”
Pearl looked downright gleeful.
Carter’s gaze slithered over me, cold and sticky like a snake’s tongue.
My hair stood on end.
Just as I thought I was recognized, Carter said, “Perfectly normal~”
He reached out, stroking from my head down my spine. His tone was sickeningly sweet. “Good girl. Now, time to check Bed #2.”
His touch felt more like he was measuring me for skinning.
I casually released Ryan.
Ryan, quick on the uptake, pretended to be knocked out cold, thus avoiding inspection.
But someone had noticed: verification depended on the players’ behavior.
Was it truly mental illness they were checking for?
So, the player in Bed #3 confidently started acting like an idiot, giggling and poking his fingers together.
Then… that was it.
Carter efficiently twisted his head off, biting into the skull like an apple.
Blood dripped down his chin. “Bed #3 patient: Abnormal.”
Instantly, the nurse-monsters swarmed the corpse.
Blood and gore flew everywhere.
Nearby players got splattered.
Everyone clapped hands over mouths, too terrified to even scream.
No one doubted the game’s reality now.
Another player, realizing something, looked at me with a pleading expression.
I mouthed a single word at him.
The player acted immediately.
He started chatting animatedly to the empty air before his bed.
When “Bed #4 patient: Normal” was announced, tears streamed down his face.
But he kept “talking,” desperate to live.
Survival instinct made them all turn to me.
I didn’t mind helping, giving each a hint.
Pearl and my parents were in the last three beds.
My parents looked at me as a matter of course, seemingly sure I would help them.
I remained silent.
Especially when it was Mom’s turn.
Her expression shifted from haughty, to angry, to terrified, finally pleading.
I savored it before giving the barest hint.
Mom survived, but she’d wet herself, utterly humiliated.
After that, dear Dad and Pearl dropped their pretenses fast.
But once the monstrous nurses and doctor left,
Dad charged at me, his hand raised to slap my face.
“You bitch! You did this on purpose! Why else would only you know how to react?”
I sidestepped his swing, making him stumble.
The players I’d helped survive eyed me suspiciously too.
Pearl piped up, her voice dripping with false concern.
“Luna saw the patient files before rounds, didn’t she? Why didn’t you tell us?”
“Were you just waiting for us to beg you?”
Ryan, pale as he pointed at the mangled corpse, accused me.
“If you hadn’t selfishly hoarded the info, he wouldn’t be dead!”
“Hand over those files!”
I jerked my chin towards his bed. “Psycho. The files are right there.”
Instantly, players scrambled to grab them.
With Ryan and my parents helping, Pearl ended up with them.
When Pearl opened the file, her face froze.
“It’s just height, weight, names, and photos. Nothing else!”
She was furious.
“Luna, did you hide the important parts?”
I spread my hands. “Sure, search me. If you find nothing, I’ll rip your mouth off.”
Pearl shrank back behind Ryan without another word.
Ryan glared at me. “Don’t you dare bully Pearl!”
My parents glared pure hatred at me.
I looked down, picking at my nails. Seriously unhinged.
I knew because I’d been a patient here.
These were my former roommates.
A girl spoke up, trying to diffuse things.
“Stop fighting! We need to discuss the diagnostic session in twenty minutes.”
Most players looked to me, hoping for more info.
I held my hand out to Pearl. “Who’s the doctor in Diagnostics?”
Pearl handed over the file, but I couldn’t find the Diagnostics doctor’s info.
The moment I frowned. Pearl whispered to Ryan.
“Ryan, Luna isn’t going to say I hid the file, is she?”
Ryan puffed up like a guard dog.
“Don’t you dare accuse Pearl!”
The tattooed guy snapped. “You two are useless troublemakers.”
“If I find out your precious Pearl did hide something, she’s done for!”
Ryan couldn’t take the insult, squaring up.
The tattooed guy flexed. Ryan backed down.
Half an hour later, we stood outside Diagnostics.
Thick blood oozed under the door. The metallic stench was nauseating.
The scene alone was enough to make knees weak.
No one dared knock.
I glanced at the nameplate beside the door. Dr. Simon Vance. And I got it.
“Dr. Vance is… unconventional. He gets off on others’ pain.”
Yeah, he loved making me cry.
“So, best not show fear.”
“If he’s not interested in you, you might survive.”
Pearl clung to Ryan, face pale, but still targeting me.
“Luna, you’re messing with us, right? Who wouldn’t be scared?”
“Maybe you should go first?”
I smiled at her.
“Sadly, he also hates people making decisions for him.”
As if on cue, the therapy room door swung open.
The wave of coppery stench that poured out was overwhelming. The room within was a charnel house of dismembered limbs and gore.
Someone collapsed, legs giving out.
Dr. Vance stood there, his lower half a mass of writhing, slimy tentacles, surging forward.
“Now then… who’s next?”
Everyone paled, holding their breath.
I subtly edged back.
The tentacles slithered over each person.
Their fear was impossible to hide.
Dr. Vance smiled. “Delicious.”
Until… his gaze landed on me. The tentacles paused.
