To save my boyfriend in an unexpected big fire, I got disfigured and ended up paralyzed.

Crying his eyes out, Ethan knelt by my hospital bed and proposed. He promised to take care of me for the rest of my life.

Not long after we got married, he gained my parents’ trust and took over the family company.

Yet using my depression as an excuse, he stopped my parents from visiting me.

What’s more, he brought my best friend home and fooled around with her right in front of me, stuck in my wheelchair.

“If it weren’t for your family’s money, I’d never have married a monster like you.”

“I already lost my true love by marrying you—what more do you want?”

Devastated, I set the whole house on fire and dragged them both to hell with me.

When I opened my eyes again, I was back on the day my boyfriend was trapped in the fire.

“Here’s the bubble tea you ordered.”

When the employee handed me the drink, I realized I had been reborn.

In my past life, because of the fire, I was paralyzed from the neck down and disfigured, which made me stay at home for ages.

This scene felt so familiar—it was the same day everything exploded in my previous life.

Ethan and I had plans to meet at a restaurant. Right when we got to the entrance, he said he wanted bubble tea.

So I told him to go inside first while I went to get his drink.

By the time I got back, the restaurant had already blown up.

My mind went completely blank. All I could think about was rushing in to save Ethan.

I did find him inside—he’d been knocked unconscious by the blast.

I dragged him out as hard as I could, even shielding him during a second explosion.

The result? I was left paralyzed and covered in severe burns. Ethan only had a scratch on his forehead.

The moment I woke up, Ethan proposed. Throughout my hospital stay, he took care of me like I was the only thing that mattered.

Back then, I thought, even though I’d lost my health and my looks, it was all worth it for love.

But not long after we married, once Ethan had earned my parents’ trust and taken a management role in our family company, he completely changed.

He lied to my parents, saying I was too depressed to see them.

He promised them he’d take good care of me. My parents believed him because he was such a good actor.

After that, Ethan grew more and more bold—he even brought his mistress home and flaunted their relationship in front of me.

Stuck in my condition, I couldn’t leave the house, let alone ask anyone for help.

That mistress was no one else but exactly my best friend, Sophia.

To humiliate me, they’d put on their little shows right in front of me.

“How could you do this to me? Right in front of my face?”

Sophia smirked, “Olivia, you’ve always acted all high and mighty just because your family has money. If it weren’t for that, Ethan would never have been with you.”

“And if you hadn’t shown up, Ethan and I would’ve been married by now.”

Ethan chimed in, “Have you looked in a mirror at yourself? That face of yours makes me sick. Did you really think I’d sleep with you? I’m not that desperate.”

My heart ached.

“I saved you, but I never held it over you.”

“You were the one who proposed. If you didn’t want to be with me like this, you could’ve just left.”

Ethan replied, “Leave? After I take everything from your family, I will.”

“And don’t act like you’re the victim here. Yeah, you lost your health and your looks, but Sophia and I lost our chance at real love. We’re even now.”

What nonsense.

Ethan had already fooled my parents. I decided things couldn’t go on like this.

If he succeeded in taking everything from my family, my parents would suffer too.

So after Ethan and Sophia fell asleep, I set the house on fire.

To make sure they couldn’t escape, I covered the floor with every flammable thing I could find.

I did it all using just my arms, dragging myself across the ground.

The last time I’d pushed myself beyond my limits was when I saved Ethan from that fire.

So ironic—both times I found strength I didn’t know I had, it was because of Ethan.

Except the first time was to save him, and this time was to destroy him.

As the flames swallowed me, I thought, if I ever got a second chance, I’d never save that bastard again.

And then… I got my wish.

While I was still processing everything, an explosion echoed from nearby.

I immediately called 911 and rushed toward the scene.

Not for Ethan—that scum didn’t deserve it—but because there were other people inside.

The explosion was sudden. In my past life, the investigation showed the restaurant owner had illegally modified the gas lines, causing the accident.

When I got there, a crowd had already gathered.

Some passersby had been hurt too, but no one was critically injured.

I knew there were bags of flour stored near the blast site—a second explosion was coming, and it would be even worse.

I yelled to everyone nearby, “There’s going to be another explosion! Move back—now!”

Some of the injured could walk on their own. For those who couldn’t, a few kind strangers and I helped carry them to a safer distance.

But no one went inside to rescue anyone.

No sensible person would’ve done something that reckless—except my foolish past self.

Not long after the second explosion, the firefighters arrived.

With professionals on the scene, the fire was put out quickly. Ethan was carried out on a stretcher.

I pinched my thigh hard to make myself cry, then rushed toward him, sobbing.

Ethan looked awful—burns covered most of his body and face, and his legs were bloody.

I rode in the ambulance with him to the hospital and called his parents on the way.

I heard the doctors said his legs might not make it. His parents would have to sign the consent forms for amputation.

Right before we reached the hospital, I pretended to collapse from exhaustion. That way, I wouldn’t have to run around handling Ethan’s paperwork.

I took the chance to get some rest. A long while later, I finally headed to the ER.

Before I even stepped inside, I could hear Ethan’s mom screaming.

“My son needs amputations? No, I won’t allow it! I order you to fix him—give me back my son, whole and healthy!”

The doctor explained,

“Ethan’s condition is critical. His legs are severely burned, and he was crushed by falling debris. The bones and soft tissue are too damaged to save. If we don’t amputate, he could die.”

Ethan’s mom kept arguing, “I don’t care—I’m not signing anything. Let’s see what you do then!”

The doctor said, “If you don’t sign, we can’t operate. I can’t force you. But you might want to start planning a funeral.”

Ethan’s dad said, “Maybe we should just agree. No legs is better than no life.”

His mom snapped,

“If he loses his legs, what if Olivia changes her mind and won’t marry him? Without her family’s support, how will your business survive?”

“We need the surgery, but we’re not signing. I’ll call Olivia—she can sign.”

Hearing that, I turned off my phone so she couldn’t reach me.

It thrilled me to watch her squirm while I stayed hidden.

I saw her dialing over and over, then cursing in frustration. Eventually, she gave in and signed the form.

I didn’t show myself until after Ethan was taken into surgery.

The moment she saw me, Ethan’s mom started in.

“Where were you? You weren’t by his side, and your phone was off. What kind of girlfriend are you?”

They were so obviously after my money. I wanted to slap my old silly self silly.

But for now, I had to keep playing along.

“I was so shocked and exhausted, I passed out. I came as soon as I woke up.”

I checked my phone. “My battery died—it wasn’t on purpose. How is Ethan? Is he going to be okay?”

Ethan’s mom yelled, “He was supposed to be on a date with you. Why is he the only one hurt?”

I said, “Ethan wanted bubble tea, so I went to get it. When I got back, the restaurant was already on fire.”

“Why didn’t you go in and save him? If you’d rushed in sooner, he wouldn’t be like this! You’re a curse—this is all your fault!”

“Once he’s out of the hospital, you two are getting married. Maybe some good news will help him recover.”

I didn’t agree or argue. I just cried softly.

The surgery took two hours, and Ethan’s mom spent the whole time yelling at me.

I regretted not showing up even later.

But when I heard the results of the surgery, getting yelled at felt worth it.

Ethan didn’t just lose his legs—his private parts were burned off too.

No more bedroom adventures for him. He’d be lucky to pee normally.

Hearing that, I fake-screamed and ran off, covering my face.

Everyone thought I was too upset and needed to cry alone. Really, I was hiding somewhere so I could laugh without being caught.

I laughed until my sides hurt.

When I got back to the room, Sophia was already there.

I hadn’t called her, and Ethan was still unconscious. So his parents must have noticed her.

It seemed they’d known about Sophia and Ethan all along—I was the only one kept in the dark.

They’d really played me for a fool.

“Olivia, something this big happened, and you didn’t tell me?”

I said, “I was too shocked and heartbroken to think straight. How did you know we were here?”

Sophia hesitated—she hadn’t expected that question—but quickly made up an excuse.

“I wasn’t feeling well and came to get checked out. Turns out it was nothing, but I ran into Mrs. Miller and heard what happened. I wanted to see if I could help.”

She was pretending to be helpful. I decided to roll with it.

“Oh, Sophia, you’re a lifesaver!”

“Mr. and Mrs. Miller are getting older. I don’t want them overworking themselves here, but I’m still really weak myself.”

“If you could help out, that’d be great. I’ll go home and rest, and leave this to you.”

Before she could refuse, I bolted out of there faster than anyone thought a “sick” person could do.

When I got home, my mom was cooking.

I hugged her tightly. She jumped, asking what was wrong.

To her, I’d only been gone a day. But with memories from my last life, it had been to me nearly two years since I’d seen her.

So I held on and didn’t let go.

“What’s wrong? Did Ethan or his mom upset you?” My parents had never liked Ethan or his family.

At first, it was my dad who disapproved. My mom went along with it at first because I genuinely liked Ethan.

Then she met Ethan’s mom.

Mom had never seen anyone so unreasonable and was afraid I’d be miserable if I married into that family. So she sided with Dad after that.

If I hadn’t ended up paralyzed and disfigured in my past life, they would’ve stopped me from marrying him.

But things had played out differently. Ethan proposed when I was at my lowest, so my parents thought he was loyal and kind. They agreed to the marriage.

Turns out, my parents were better judges of character than I was.

I told them what happened at the hospital just now, including everything his mom said to me.

Mom was so mad she wanted to confront Ethan’s mom right then, but I stopped her.

She said, “You’re not still thinking of marrying him, are you?”

I said, “Of course not. It’s not just the injuries—I found out he was cheating. But let me handle this. I’ve got a plan.”

That night, I had a nightmare.

I saw myself from my past life—helpless, lying on the ground, my body and soul rotting away.

Ethan and Sophia were going at it right in front of me, fantasizing about the life they’d have after I died.

Then I watched as I struggled to start the fire.

When the flames erupted, I jolted awake.

To make sure it was just a dream, I got up and walked around.

Seeing that I was still whole and healthy in this life, I breathed a huge sigh of relief.

I spent the next few days resting at home, keeping my phone off to avoid any interruptions.

When I figured Ethan had probably calmed down, I went to the hospital.

Since his affair with Sophia wasn’t public yet, I was still his girlfriend in name.

I couldn’t look too heartless—that’d give people ammunition against me.

During those days, I’d planned how to break things off gracefully.

With me gone for so long, Ethan had probably been plotting his next move too. My absence must have made him nervous.

So when he saw me walk into his room, he put on a eager expression.

His face was wrapped in bandages, so all he could do was wave excitedly.

“Olivia, you’re here! I couldn’t reach you. I was so worried.”

“Even after what happened, I still want to finish what I started that day.”

Then he held up a ring and said, “Olivia, marry me. I’ll make you happy.”
