I was on a cruise trip.

When suddenly, in the middle of the night, singing echoed across the sea.

My best friend, obsessed with mermaid legends, got super excited and insisted it was a mermaid calling out to her!

She was determined to follow the sound.

Little did we know, it was a trap set by man-eating Sirens.

In a critical moment, my so-called friend offered me as a sacrifice.

She teamed up with everyone else on the ship and pushed me off the deck, leaving me at those creatures.

I was torn apart and devoured.

They escape safely.

Later, my friend posted her “thrilling discovery” of the Sirens online.

It went viral, and she became a rising star in the biology world because of it.

She gained fame and fortune.

I ended up with nothing—not even my bones remained.

When I close my eyes, I can still hear the Siren’s song.

“Wendy, you’re a marine biology master’s student—do you think mermaids are real?”

I froze for a second.

Last life, Jessica asked me the same thing.

Back then, I said, “There’s no solid scientific evidence that proves mermaids exist.”

But that exact response led me straight to my death.

That quiet, deep night, singing came from the ocean.

Everyone on the ship was confused, but Jessica looked mesmerized.

She was thrilled:

“I read online that mermaids live deep in the ocean. They only rise to the surface when they’ve found their destined person, calling them with their song.”

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance! We’ve definitely found real mermaids!”

She convinced everyone to steer the ship toward the singing.

But as we got closer, we didn’t find beautiful mythical creatures—we found vicious, man-eating Sirens!

The ship hit a reef, shaking violently.

The hull cracked, seawater poured in, and we started sinking.

And surrounding us in the water—hungry Sirens, waiting to devour us.

In the panic, Jessica suggested offering a sacrifice, to distract the Sirens and buy time.

Everyone was terrified.

No one wanted to be the sacrifice.

But Jessica didn’t hesitate.

She pushed me forward:

“You’re the marine biology major. You didn’t even believe these things existed, right? Well now you can go study them up closely!”

The cowards rushed forward.

They ignored my pleas and shoved me into the water.

The Sirens attacked instantly.

Pain swallowed me.

The ocean turned red.

The last thing I saw was Jessica’s cold, ruthless face.

I didn’t get it.

Her parents divorced years ago.

My family treated her like their own daughter. I saw her as my sister.

Why would she do this to me?

Maybe it was the pain and injustice, but my soul didn’t move on. Instead, I stayed near her.

My sacrifice bought time until the tide turned. They sailed away and were rescued.

I watched Jessica play the victim in front of my parents, crying and saying she couldn’t protect me.

I saw my heartbroken parents hold her and tell her it wasn’t her fault.

I watched her go live, spinning a story about escaping the Sirens.

People called her brave, a hero contributing to biology.

I saw her lying on a bed covered with money, laughing. She was even invited to speak at marine biology conferences.

I saw her dress up, drive a luxury car, and find my grieving boyfriend at a bar—drunk and lost without me.

She leaned in and whispered, “Why can’t it be me?”

That’s when I understood.

Rage burned through me.

How could the murderer walk free, steal my life, my future, and succeed—while I was torn apart, eaten, forgotten?

I closed my eyes, and the mermaid’s song echoed again.

By some grace, I was sent back to that day.

This time, I will make her—make all of them—pay.

When Jessica asked that question again, I smiled confidently.

“There was a news report about mermaid. I think that’s proof enough.”

Her eyes lit up.

She was more determined than ever to find them.

The cruise ship sailed deeper into the ocean.

The night was pitch black, thick and heavy.

The eerie singing felt ominous.

The sea wind carried a sense of dread.

Some passengers got nervous and demanded to turn back.

Jessica was annoyed.

I spoke up first:

“No one can predict the unknown. Since I study marine biology, I know the sea better. Let me go check it out first—that way, everyone stays safe.”

The passengers quickly agreed:

“Good idea. No one has to take the risk. Who knows what’s out there in the middle of the night?”

“Yeah, you’re the expert. You should go.”

Seeing their selfishness, I smirked inwardly but kept a calm face.

Jessica couldn’t wait to get rid of me.

She told me to be careful but hurried me along.

I got on a small boat, brought a communicator and a diving knife, and headed toward the singing.

In the dark, danger approached.

A Siren grabbed my ankle.

I fought back my fear, slashing with the knife until I forced it and the others back.

Then one with glowing green eyes jumped into my boat and gripped my face tightly.

There it was.

These Sirens lured humans with their songs, stranded ships on purpose—they were smart, organized.

But last time, when I was caught, they seemed mindless, driven only by instinct.

So I guessed—they had a leader.

One who’d dealt with humans before.

One with higher intelligence.

Sure enough, under the moonlight, I saw eyes shadowed by a prominent brow—full of menace and evil.

Deep-sea terror kicked my survival instinct in:

“You understand me, don’t you? Let’s make a deal.”

“If I’m in danger, that ship turns back immediately. You get nothing.”

“But I can take you onboard. In exchange, you spare me and cooperate.”

My heart pounded.

I was betting with my life.

The Siren King showed no expression.

His black tail wrapped around my waist, squeezing like I was an insect.

I was choking, fading.

Was I going to lose?

Suddenly, air rushed back into my lungs.

The Siren King loosened his tail.

The corner of his mouth lifted slightly.

Almost a smile.

He was toying with me.

And I’d won the bet.

I brought the Siren King back to the ship.

He acted tame, eyes lowered—perfectly deceiving.

Jessica was dazzled, her cheeks flushed:

“It really is a mermaid! The legends are true! The mermaid prince must have sensed I was his destined one. That’s why he called me with his song.”

I almost laughed.

She had no idea this wasn’t a gentle mermaid prince—it was a vicious, man-eating Siren.

The passengers were excited too.

They thought they’d captured a mythical creature.

Greed filled their faces.

A fat, wealthy man schemed aloud:

“Too bad it’s not a female. But a male Siren? That’s a new species. People will pay to experiment on him. The black market will go crazy. We’re rich.”

I recognized that wealthy man.

In my past life, he’d cut corners, used cheap materials, caused a bridge to collapse—killing countless people.

Rumor was, he also dealt in black-market human trafficking.

A real piece of shit.

And everyone on this ship was just like him—his business partners, his lackeys.

A bunch of selfish, greedy cowards.

They locked up the Siren King deep in the ship’s hold so he couldn’t escape.

Jessica was furious.

How could they treat her “mermaid prince” like that?

But she was outnumbered.

The Siren King was imprisoned.

She took her anger out on me:

“Why didn’t you help me? You let them hurt my mermaid prince! You call yourself my sister? You’re a coward!”

I apologized like I always did, smiling like I used to.

The next day, the ship threw a party.

They drank until they dead drunk, slept deeply.

None of them knew what was coming.

I was feeling good.

I quietly unlocked the Siren King’s room.

The wealthy man was first.

A Siren choked him.

His face turned purple, veins bulging.

He couldn’t speak.

His eyes were full of terror.

He begged me silently.

Looked pitiful.

I’d begged just like that once.

And what did he say?

“If you don’t die, I will. So better you than me.”

I gave his words right back to him.

The life in his eyes faded.

The thrill of revenge shook me.

He was thrown into the sea.

The waiting Sirens swarmed him.

The ocean turned red.

The Siren King kept killing to feed his kind.

Body after body was tossed overboard.

Once most of the passengers were gone, the Sirens were finally full.

The Siren King looked satisfied. He lazily slapped my calf with his tail.

I stood my ground: “Our deal isn’t done. You still have to cooperate.”

I stopped him from leaving and locked him back up.

The red faded with the wind. The sea returned to normal.

As if nothing happened.

But my revenge had only just begun.
